Competition heats up among buyers as summer arrives
While the year started slower than usual, Metro Vancouver’s1 housing market is showing signs of heating up as summer arrives, with prices increasing for the sixth consecutive month. The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver (REBGV) reports that residential home sales in the region totalled 3,4112 in May 2023, which is a 15.7 per cent increase from the 2,947 sales recorded in May 2022, and a 1.4 per cent decline from the 10-year seasonal average (3,458) …read the REGBV report
Bank of Canada raises policy rate 25 basis points, continues quantitative tightening
The Bank of Canada today increased its target for the overnight rate to 4¾%, with the Bank Rate at 5% and the deposit rate at 4¾%. The Bank is also continuing its policy of quantitative tightening …learn more
What happens now?
In the coming days, banks and other financial institutions are expected to follow the Bank of Canada’s lead and hike their prime lending rate, which is used to price variable-rate mortgages and personal and home equity lines of credit (HELOCs).
This announcement will have no impact on fixed-rate mortgage holders.
The Bank’s next announcement will take place July 12.
